The Preliminary Study for Developing the Sense of Loss Scale for Industrially Injured Patients

|
The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Sense of Loss Scale for industrially injured patients. A total of 95 draft items were collected from literature reviews and interviews with industrially injured patients. Then we selected 54 items from the ratings by professional groups and 31 from a survey. As a result, the Sense of Loss showed an 3 factors of despair, deep sadness, and denial of reality through exploratory factor analysis and item analysis. The internal consistency and the split-half reliability were acceptable. The positive correlations were found among 3 factors of despair, deep sadness and denial of reality. In addition, despair and deep sadness factors were negatively correlated with self-esteem which is analyzed to validate the Sense of Loss scale. In sum, this study has a meaning for clinical field in that developing the scale for industrially injured patients and this has adequate psychometric characteristics.
